The Order of Succession:

In the Dominican Republic, the order of succession is governed by the provisions of the Civil Code.

The proximity of kinship is graduated by the number of generations and each generation is called a degree.

The order of succession is as follows: 1- Children and their descendants. They exclude all others; 2- Privileged collateral relatives, if they concur with the father and/or mother; and 3- Ordinary ascendants.
